This is a popular body contouring procedure especially for post-weight loss women or for patients who wish to correct the loss of skin elasticity. This procedure has become increasingly popular in the Tampa and Brandon area due to our high temperatures and our clients’ desire to wear less clothing, such as tank tops and short sleeves, with more confidence. An Arm Lift addresses sagging tissues that diet and exercise cannot fix. Following surgery, your newly toned, smaller arms will look and feel better in summer clothing, which can enhance your overall aesthetic and even boost your self-confidence. Also known as a Brachioplasty, an Arm Lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm from the under arm region to the elbow.
Fluctuations in weight, aging and even genetics can cause your upper arms to have a drooping or sagging appearance. Exercise may strengthen and improve the underlying muscle tone, but it cannot address excess skin that has lost elasticity, underlying weakened tissues or localized fat deposits.
The surgical procedure is recommended on candidates that have drooping or sagging skin in the upper arm region.
The Arm Lift procedure is performed in a surgical center done under general anesthesia. The incision length and pattern will depend on the amount and location of the excess skin to be removed. The incision is generally placed on the inside of the upper arm or on the back on the arm and may extend just above the elbow. If fat is to be reduced during your Arm Lift, it will be excised or treated with Liposuction. During the procedure, the underlying supportive tissue is tightened and reshaped with internal sutures. Finally, the skin is smoothed over the new contour of your arm. Your incision will be closed with absorbable sutures or stitches that are removed in office 1-2 weeks following surgery.
If you have flabby upper arms and are in good health, you may be a good candidate for Brachioplasty. During your consultation, Dr. Ambay may also assess the following criteria for arm lift surgery.
After surgery, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions. The smoother, tighter contouring that result from an Arm Lift will be apparent almost immediately, although obscured by some swelling and bruising. You will be required to wear a compression garment for several weeks post-surgery to minimize swelling and assist the skin and tissues to heal. Your skin quality will dramatically improve in both appearance and feel.
The overall recovery time period for the Arm Lift procedure is one to two weeks. You will be monitored with follow-up office visits and will be instructed when you can return to normal daily activities including work and exercise.
There are several different procedures that can accomplish an Arm Lift. Dr. Ambay will help guide you through which procedures are available and which one will best benefit your needs and desired outcome. Depending on the procedure, the incision for the surgery can be very minimal and recovery time can be short. Dr. Ambay will educate you on the process for each Arm Lift option.
